Running Downhill, Or, How Not To Die

Some people seem like they just run faster downhills…Is there really anything you can do to “bomb” down the trails like you see others doing? Well – yes and no!

The good news is that there is certainly steps you can take to improve your downhill game.

Even if it’s just to complete a run quicker, you may want to take the time to work on your downhill running.

On the other hand, if you’re looking to take some time off of your races figuring out how to push yourself a bit going down can shave off a lot of time. Even when you’re tired and it feels like it’s not making a difference…it really is.

Jeney learned from several more experienced trail runners early how to go about speeding up on the downhill, even on rocky technical sections with her toe shoes. I picked up on this from her as I got more comfortable negotiating technical downhills, and while I’m certainly not “speedy” I have taken my downhill running up a notch from where I was just a year or two ago.

Check out the video for some of our ideas on how you can do the same.

If you’ve got favorite methods of you own let us, and everyone else, know in the comments below or on the video!
